title: sourcing category manager
reports to: regional sourcing manager – asia & oceania
location: guangzhou / shanghai
position summary
huhtamaki hong kong is looking for a sourcing category manager who is responsible for organizing and running the commercial sourcing activities of our unit in close collaboration and alignment with group sourcing category managers and other sourcing managers in the region. the purpose is to develop, deliver and contribute to the profitability, competitive advantage and future strategy of the business unit by having responsibility of unit’s full sourcing spend and ensuring that the unit receives an uninterrupted supply of direct and indirect goods and services at optimum total cost of ownership.
organizational context
sourcing category manager reports directly into the regional sourcing manager - ao. the jobholder works closely with the sourcing category managers in the foodservice eao segment sourcing & logistics team mainly on those direct and indirect categories which are managed/coordinated centrally on the segment level. sourcing category manager will liaise actively with the other key functions in the local unit, such as planning, production, logistics, sales, finance, npd, qesh. sourcing category manager will also work with other sourcing managers within the region to create synergy and economy of scale where possible.
main responsibilities
the main responsibilities and key activities that a sourcing category manager role is either accountable for, or responsible to execute:
sourcing plan
formulating sourcing strategy and sourcing pipeline
collecting and analysing spend data
drive local/regional market analysis: develop a market overview of the materials, services and suppliers and build market knowledge in terms of market players, pricing level, product costing and market cost drivers.
gain understanding of supplier dynamics and able to build category and supplier segmentation.
understand unit business requirements and ensure timely inclusion to group category plans.
establish yearly sourcing pipeline
set and achieve saving targets:
deliver substantial and sustainable cost savings:responsible for setting, monitoring and driving total cost of ownership reduction initiatives with annual cost savings targets aligned with management, business functions and segment sourcing team.
ensure cost competitive supply for the unit by running tenders and benchmark exercises in the supply market.
manage sourcing budget within the unit.
execution
manage sourcing duties of full category required in the ao region:
take ownership and responsibility of the commercial negotiations process and pricing: lead and execute local supplier negotiations
identify, determine and develop new suppliers, alternative sources of supply, solutions and services: continuously challenge current specifications, processes and models using market knowledge and knowledge harvested from sister companies.
responsible for introduction of new suppliers and the removal of existing suppliers in conformance with the supplier approval process in place.
ensure the right terms and conditions in the unit’s order system
follow up with local unit’s financial controller on implemented conditions and bottom line contribution
manage cross-functional sourcing project teams (incl. sales, npd, qehs, production and logistics).
ensure compliance and adherence to group and segment sourcing guidelines, policies and procedures.
develop and execute effective and consistent unit sourcing strategies.
implement and support group sourcing category plans in unit (including follow up of saving actions).
supplier management
supplier management --managing the supplier relationships, supplier compliance and performance:
plan, steer and develop relationships with new and existing suppliers on continuous basis.
act as central contact point towards the suppliers.
responsible for annual tenders, pricing & contract management, negotiations of terms and conditions.
manage savings actions with suppliers: identify and drive implementation improvement projects with the suppliers.
supplier performance measurement and management, follow-up supplier kpis: quality, service, otif, innovation and development, compliance, collaboration.
manage and drive resolution of quality and supplier issues or shortfalls in supplier performance and escalate if needed.
supplier claim handling: reclaiming financial compensation from suppliers.
analyse, ensure and audit supplier compliance with standard/code of conduct.
follow-up supplier related risks, define mitigation actions and monitor implementation.
ensure supplier agreements and other relevant annual agreements meet the t&cs as well as other technical requirements including updates, analyses and follow up.
keep agreements/price lists updated and feed data into operational purchasing systems.
maintain relevant kpis to monitor the efficiency of the sourcing & monitor performance against budget.
ensuring supplier meets huhtamaki standard code of conduct and all relevant food standard and quality certifications.
support other functions/roles in measuring and management of supplier/unit kpis where needed.
mitigate all supply risks by identify high risk areas and implementing supply continuity plan.
reporting:
provide sourcing strategy plans and report performance in regular basis.
provide local volume and performance data of centrally controlled categories to group category managers in order to drive improvements and run tenders.
leadership & collaboration
communicate business and sourcing development strategy to the local team
ensure strong connection with main stakeholders incl. category management
represent sourcing in cross-functional meetings within the unit and towards other units
collaborate with sourcing managers in other units to identify, share and implement best practices in sourcing
education and qualifications required
bachelor or master degree in applicable technical or commercial field (sourcing, supply chain management, business, engineering)
relevant experience required
minimum 5 years of experience in sourcing in an industrial manufacturing or traded goods environment with proven track record of sourcing and effective supplier relationship management.
experienced hands-on buyer with strong sourcing knowledge and experience capable of managing a very diverse portfolio of materials and services consumed in a manufacturing environment
international or multicultural work experience is an advantage
exposure to packaging related product and services procurement is an advantage
competencies and skills required
knowledge of sourcing theories, techniques and fundamental sourcing processes and practices.

pragmatic and hands-on.
financial and business understanding, commercial awareness
very good communicator
planning, organizing and project management skill
aptitude in decision-making and working with numbers

ability and experience in collecting and analysing data
good it knowledge, advanced ms excel skills with ability tobuild and maintain complex calculators
business fluency in local language and in english
